THE INDEPENDENCE OF YOUR INVESTMENT ADVISOR: Access to products and services adapted to you

Whether your goals are to increase your wealth, prepare for your retirement or to finance your personal projects, your independent Investment Advisor has the freedom to recommend the best investments to meet your goals.

  • Your current financial situation
  • Your investment knowledge
  • Your risk tolerance
  • Your investment horizon
  • Your investment goals

YOUR DUE DILIGENCE IS IMPORTANT

What to ask your advisor?

  • What services do you offer?
  • What are your professional qualifications?
  • How are you compensated for your services?
  • How do we determine my risk tolerance?
  • How do we determine what I will need to fund my retirement?
  • How much money do I need to invest and how often?
  • Have you worked with other investors with similar situations to mine?
  • How many different kinds of investments do I need?
  • What effects will these investments have on my taxes?
  • Will you work with other professionals assisting me, such as my accountant and lawyer?
  • Where will my account be held?
  • How often and by what means will you communicate with me?
  • How will I be able to monitor my plan and track investment performance?
  • How can I make changes to my plan?
  • Are you truly independent or you represent certain products?
  • Is my advisor a fiduciary?
  • Are the interests of my advisor aligned with my own?
  • How often will we discuss these plans?

We highly recommend that you do your own due diligence when seeking an advisor.

To become registered with IIROC, investment advisor passes a series of background checks and tests to ensure he or she meets the experience requirements and professional standards. IIROC-registered advisors must also complete mandatory continuing education courses to stay up to date on our rules, financial products and industry trends. As a client or general public, you can make sure your investment advisor is registered with IIROC and find out if he or she has ever been disciplined for breaking our rules by searching the AdvisorReport on IIROC’s website.
